The City Smart Scholars 5th grade program is designed for students from communities that are under-represented in New York City’s selective schools and high schools, particularly those from Black and Latino communities and those whose families cannot afford private tutoring. The program will meet in Upper Manhattan Saturdays from 9:30 to 3:30 from January 28 through April 1, 2017. We will also meet during the winter break Tuesday through Friday, February 21-24. Students will receive intensive instruction in English Language Arts and Math in the mornings to prepare them for the NY State Fifth Grade tests, followed by enrichment and creativity building programming in the afternoon as well as several field trips.
Students who complete the program will be eligible for a four-week Summer 2017 program emphasizing writing and critical reading skills and math problem-solving. Those who receive high scores on their 5th grade ELA and Math tests will also be eligible for a 12-week program in Fall 2017 to prepare them for the Hunter College High School admissions test, which will be given to 6th graders in January 2018.
