The ESPI: City Smart Scholars program focuses largely on providing for the additional needs of academically advanced students from low income neighborhoods. We provide consistent higher level academic and cultural enrichment over a multi-year period. In doing so, we hope to create more educational opportunities for these deserving students, specifically to gain admittance to and thrive at the elite NYC exam schools such as Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Hunter College High School.
City Smart Scholars Program One Year Scholarship – Covers 30 sessions of academic instruction in the Fall and Spring, 4 weeks of Summer Camp, and 6 Field Trips. A full year of the program reflects approximately 52 days (364 hours) of academic curriculum, test prep, and cultural enrichment. Classroom size is small to provide students with necessary attention.
Summer Camp – A month-long program that includes 1 week of intensive creative writing via the acclaimed Writopia workshop, 3 weeks of pre-algebra and problem solving math instruction, a number of elective enrichment activities, test prep, and field trips throughout NYC.
Saturday Academy – Provides for 30 full-day Saturday sessions in Fall and Spring. The Spring program for 5th graders is focused on common core math and English language arts curriculum, in addition to preparation for state tests. The Fall program for 6th graders provides intense preparation for the Hunter High School entrance exam and additional conceptual math and essay writing skills. 7th grade program continues to provide in depth math instruction and writing skills that build toward prep for the Specialized High School Admission Test taken in Fall of 8th Grade.
