The ESPI: CITY SMART SCHOLARS program provides advanced students, from low-income neighborhoods and racially isolated schools, with academic and cultural enrichment over a multi-year period. ESPI creates a community where educational opportunity can be realized. Students are given the foundations and test prep needed to gain admission to elite NYC exam schools such as Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, Brooklyn Tech and Hunter College High School. They develop skills to thrive in academically intensive schools of all types.

More than 20% of our students enroll in one of the NYC specialized high schools or Hunter College High School, significantly higher than the rate of a typical NYC public school student. Another 20% enroll in private schools and a further 20% choose highly selective public high schools. Virtually all students enroll in a high school with a 90% or higher graduation rate.
